A Brief History of Elizabeth Furnace

Elizabeth Furnace dates back to the mid-1700s, when one of Pennsylvania’s first iron furnaces was built by John Jacob Huber and later renamed by his son-in-law, Heinrich Wilhelm Stiegel, in honor of his wife, Elizabeth. Many of the original stone structures still remain, including the Steigel-Coleman Mansion and the bell tower, which still rings today.

Passed down through seven generations of the Coleman family, the estate remained a private homestead for more than 250 years before opening to the public for the first time. Now carefully restored and thoughtfully updated, Elizabeth Furnace welcomes guests to celebrate life’s most meaningful moments surrounded by history, beauty, and a sense of legacy that’s hard to find anywhere else.

Elizabeth Furnace is 35 miles from York, or about a 50 minute drive. Tucked away in the quiet woods north of Lititz, our event venue is the perfect setting for corporate retreats, family reunions, holiday parties, and more.

What amenities are included with an event venue rental?

When you book a wedding or event at Elizabeth Furnace, you get up to 6 hours of private access to our entire historic venue, including your choice of event space and our 33 acres of lush native and manicured grounds. Rental also includes use of our paved, landscaped, and well lit parking area for guests.

How far out do I need to book my event?

We recommend booking as early as possible to ensure your preferred date is available. Many clients reserve their events 9-12 months in advance, especially during peak seasons. However, we’re happy to accommodate shorter notice bookings based on availability.

If I reserve the venue, do I have access to the whole property?

Yes, when you reserve Elizabeth Furnace, you have full exclusivity to the property for the day of your event. You will be the only event taking place, with private access to all 33 acres. The specific areas and amenities included in your rental will be clearly outlined in your rental agreement to ensure everything is tailored to your event.

Are table and chair rentals available?

Tables and chairs are included in the venue fee. We can provide a variety of other rental options to suit your event’s style and size. Rental details and pricing can be discussed during the planning process.

Can I use an outside caterer?

Elizabeth Furnace works exclusively with our own hand-selected team from The JDK Group. We do make limited exceptions that need approval by the Elizabeth Furnace team for religious and cultural reasons.

Does Elizabeth Furnace have a curfew?

All events must conclude by 10:00 pm Sunday – Thursday and by 10:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays due to the noise ordinances in our location.
